Italian food, recognized and admired all over the world, has now been declared a UNESCO Heritage treasure.
For us Italians, and for our mothers and grandmothers, the fact that our cuisine represented an excellence appreciated worldwide has always seemed obvious. Yet this official recognition has filled us with pride.
Italian cuisine, thanks to its centuries-old traditions and strong connection to the land, has been honored by UNESCO as a unique cultural expression based on quality, authenticity, and respect for raw ingredients.

In this context, our region of Puglia plays a central role in preserving and spreading the Italian culinary tradition, offering typical products that embody the values of Italy’s gastronomic heritage.
In 2010, UNESCO also recognized the Mediterranean Diet as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, considering it one of the healthiest and most sustainable eating models in the world. This lifestyle is based on symbolic ingredients of traditional Italian cuisine, such as:
Extra virgin olive oil Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva Salentino DOP | Emporio Salentino
Cereals and durum wheat pasta Pasta Artigianale Pugliese | Emporio Salentino
Legumes and seasonal vegetables Legumi Artigianali Pugliesi – Emporio Salentino
And then fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit, dried fruit, fish, and meat—an enormous variety of quality products skillfully used in the recipes of our tradition.
Puglia is one of the territories that best represents the Mediterranean Diet, thanks to its production of extra virgin olive oil, artisanal preserves, and high-quality agricultural products.
This recognition once again reinforces the idea that Italian food is not only nourishment, but a true cultural expression handed down through generations.
Choosing Apulian gastronomic excellence means supporting a food culture recognized worldwide.
Here at Emporio Salentino, we follow a highly selective process to identify what we believe to be the very best products. Puglia offers a vast range of goods, all excellent in their own way for taste, nutritional value, and sustainability—but among them, we choose only the finest.
The selection we offer consists of premium Italian products that celebrate the gastronomic heritage of Puglia and the traditions recognized by UNESCO.
Bringing authentic products to the table means preserving and passing on tradition and quality.
